Symposium on

The Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Sum Rule

and the NUCLEON Spin Structure in THE Resonance Region

Johannes Gutenberg-Universitaet, Mainz, Germany

June 14-17, 2000

 THIRD CIRCULAR

It will be the aim of the Symposium to discuss the new experimental results on the helicity stucture of the nucleon in the resonance region, as obtained with real photons at MAMI (and finite four-momentum transfer at Jefferson Lab. Furthermore, there should be reports on related ongoing experiments and new projects at other places, some coverage of the connections to the quark spin structure as studied by deep inelastic scattering, and finally a discussion of the theoretical implications (GDH and BC sum rules, resonance and quark structure, etc.).

 ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

The Symposium is organized by Jefferson Lab (Newport News/Va, USA) and Institut fuer Kernphysik (University of Mainz, Germany).

OTHER INFORMATION

  1. Conference Site
  2. The Symposium will take place at the Institut fuer Kernphysik, Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet in Mainz, Germany.

For details see our home page http://www.kph.uni-mainz.de/travel.html .

  3. Visa Arrangement
  4. The European Community has formal visa waiver arrangements with many countries. Please check with your travel agent or the German Consulate about possible visa requirements. If a letter of invitation is required, please contact us via our conference email address. Please inform us immediately if there are any problems.

  5. Transportation
  6. By airline: Frankfurt International Airport is very close to Mainz. Trains leaving directly from the airport reach Mainz main station ("Mainz Hauptbahnhof") in about 25 minutes. Please note that there are 2 stations at the airport, "Fernbahnhof" (long distance trains) and "Regionalbahnhof" (regional trains). We recommend to take the regional trains (labeled S, RE, SE) to Mainz, leaving the airport every 30 minutes. Important: You cannot buy a ticket on these trains but have to get it from a vending machine (RMV, regional traffic in the Rhein-Main area) at the entrance of the station before you enter the train, and you can use the same ticket for connecting buses and trains within Mainz (see below).

(Note: If you take an IC, EC or ICE train, you can also get a ticket on train but at a higher price, and these tickets are not valid on buses and trams.)

By railway: Mainz main station ("Mainz Hauptbahnhof") is served by many Intercity (IC) and Eurocity (EC) trains. From there take buses 54, 55, 58 or 68 (these numbers will be valid after 28 May!). Get out at "Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg" (one station after "Universitaet"), cross the street using a pedestrian bridge and proceed to Institut fuer Kernphysik (see map).

By automobile: The University is easily accessible from the Mainz beltway. Take exit "Saarstrasse", continue on Saarstrasse and take a right exit after passing a traffic circle. Follow signs to University (see map).

  7. Accomodations
  8. Hotel reservation can be arranged at the "Verkehrsbuero", http://www.info-mainz.de/land/verkehr/E/index.htm. Further information will be sent upon request. Please contact us if there are any problems.

  9. Local Registration
  10. Registration will begin at 16:00 hrs. on Tuesday, June 13 in the lobby of Institut fuer Kernphysik and will continue through the registration reception until 20:00 hrs. On Wednesday registration will be possible from 8:00 to 13:00 hrs.

  11. Registration Reception
  12. There will be a reception from 18:00 to 20:00 hrs. on Tuesday, June 13, in the lobby of Institut fuer Kernphysik.

  13. Companions Information Coffee
  14. A companions coffee will be held on Wednesday morning, June 14th from 9:30 to 10.30 a.m. in the lobby of the Institut fuer Kernphysik. Information on possible excursions and local places of interest will be provided.

Please inform us about accompanying persons at your earliest convenience in order to give us a possibility to make suggestions for a companions program.

  15. Conference Lunches
  16. The following eating places are located within a short walk from the Conference site:

Mensa: Take the self-serve on the entrance level.

    Campus: Italian restaurant.

Club "Georg Forster" in the guest house of the University.
